Great Salt Lake

From snow to hot salt flats. You can drive on the salt flats provided it is not too wet because then you will crack the salt surface and get stuck in the mud beneath. Of course, Derek had to try it. These flats are used for land speed races.

Salt Lake City

In Salt Lake City we did a quick drive by of Capitol Hill and the Mormon Church area. We were waiting for the BLM lands and Archers National Park to open before we left SLC and the internet. Spent a couple of nights in the Sams Club/Walmart car park, empty except for a couple of other campers. Amazing how you can just park up for a couple of nights in a shopping center car park and nobody moves you on. Just as good and any regular RV park which are basically concrete slabs with facilities. At Sams we could even lie on some green grass out of the heat of the camper and watch trains go by. Ah could life get any more glamorous?

Arches National Park

We were able to book flights out of LA for the 6th June but all pet places had been taken up by pet transport agencies. I decided to fly back with the girls. Derek will follow once he has sorted out storage for the Ram Dooley, organised the sale of the caravan/travel trailer and transport for Lucy. All I have to do is put up with two weeks compulsory quarantine.

Arches and Moab, another fabulous National Park, more busy than Yellowstone.

Red Rock Hot Springs

Heading south to LA we stopped at Red Rock Hot Springs. All hot springs so far had not re-opened but I found a free local hot water hole behind the Mystic Hot Springs in Monroe. A great spot where the land owner lets people use it for free if they respect the area. Camped there the night. So lovely to have a long soak in the hot springs, Lucy thought so too.

On to California

You never know what’s going to happen when you free camp on the side of the road, This night we chose a parking lot that looked like it was used for concerts, we were treated to fireworks from some locals in the same area.

Straight through Las Vegas, Nevada – nothing to see there, (even when its open). All closed. That was a bit mean, you should visit Vegas at least once. On to California
