Dropped in on the Jim Beam Distillery on the way to the Mammoth Caves area of Kentucky. We were lucky and managed to get a tour without a reservation after initially being told none were available a vacancy came up later.
Interesting that Bourbon can only contain spirit and water - anything else is called Whisky. Also the colour and much of the flavour comes from the charring of the inside of the barrels prior to filling - who ever thought of this? Quick to make from ground corn, barley and rye and then distilling. Many years to get the flavour right.
Lovely collection of souvenir bottles there…and I bet you had to try the stuff didn’t you….even they told you it was the wood ash inside the barrel, it is ACTUALLY the dead rat that gets put there to flavour the batch….they breed them out the back…or so Midsummer Murders says.
