Flight

Easy and Smooth but Long. We arrived at the airport with plenty of time and there was few people at the airport so we were cleared through security with three hours to go before our flight. I got to sit in the bar and watch the end of the cricket test. I enjoyed the wait.
We arrived in Singapore after good in flight service and found our way to the Priority Pass lounge for our five hour layover. We had a shower and a few Chivas Regals to help with sleep for the next flight.
The next leg to Johannesburg and Cape Town was overnight however we saw the spectacular Madagascar and the islands out the window before dawn. The terrain into Cape Town was also spectacular with beautiful ranges.
In the Cape Town airport there was local sim card companies and ATMs so that was convenient. Quick uber ride and we were in Stellenbosch.
After thirty-five hours or so travelling we were looking forward to a shower. Unfortunately the hotel didn't have a room available so we had to sit in the cafe for five hours waiting for our room. On the way to our room the manager caught up with us and appologised and said he thought we were just having a break and didn't realise we were waiting for our room. He said really sorry and have breakfast on him tomorrow. We appreciated the gesture.

The Truck

The build is moving. Our truck now has a floor and four walls. Internally it feels really spacious. Hopefully it still feels spacious when all the furniture is built. The build might slow down again at the moment as the bamboo for the furniture is out of stock.
The truck looks bigger than I expected however it is smaller than my current Ram - Northstar combination. It will be interesting to see how we find it when we get delivery.

Stellenbosch the first few days

We are enjoying Stellenbosch. The town is beautiful, clean, and well maintained. There are young unistudents everywhere frequenting the bars, resturants, and coffee shops. We have never seen so many young vibrant people.
The food is excellent and about half the price of Australia. We had a lovely lunch at Bellevue Winery.

  1. Good to hear you got there and the town is spectacular. Great photos. I had never heard of the place you are at in my life but it seems an old place with old buildings seemingly in good condition. The photos are great. So much history in old towns. Then closer in you have the commercial centre giving work for the locals. Towns can’t prosper without work to do and wages paid. Nice of the manager to shout you breakfast though. So today is voting day here for local council. Too many standing and possible close count at the end. Some may miss out by a few votes. Last night was first night for weeks it did not rain! AND it was not so hot n humid. All of a sudden the temp dropped from about 28 to 25. Such a relief. Anyway, hope the building boys keep going. Good you are there to give claps n cheers when another panel arrives…ok enjoy your stay and think of us, at least now not weighed down with heat n humidity n not wanting to do anything but stay inside with the air on. Have a good day. Love mum n scrub turkeys.

  2. Hi Derek and Sally, good to hear of your start on another adventure. Glad everything went pretty smoothly. We are very much looking forward to following your trip. Safe travels and we look forward to the next instalment. Graham
