Spearfish Wyoming

Sand Creek crossing campground, near Beulah. A free camp site beside the river with lots of deer watching. It was very quiet but there were a few other campers around. US is so well set up for free camping definitely enjoying it more than most of the soulless RV parks.
Part of being able to bring Lucy home was a 50 day vet supervised quarantine in the USA, blood tests had to be taken for rabies and ticks to see if the treatments had worked. It was time for Lucys blood test which we booked in with a vet in Spearfish.

While in Wyoming we had been watching the Yellowstone website to see when it might reopen.
18th May, yippee.

Buffalo

Buffalo and Lake De Smet Mikesell Potts park. Our first fee paying camp for a while. We were the only ones there.

Had a quick look at the buffalo leap cliff where the First Nations would herd the buffalo over the cliff to their deaths, they used some interesting techniques.  Big Horn National Forest, spectacular, camped on the side of the highway because snow was covering the rest of the side road. Beautiful place to camp for the night, snow falling covering the trees. No big deal for Canadians but us Aussies thought it was beautiful.

Cody

On to Cody, and to wait for the big reopening on the 18th
In Cody the Buffalo Bill museum was open to the public. Well worth the visit and so good to be out and about. They were being very careful with social distancing, and stations around the museum with hand sanitiser and gloves.

Buffalo Bill, real name William Frederick Cody, not just a dandy dresser, also a soldier hunter and showman.

Annie Oakley a sharpshooter starred in Buffalo Bill Wild West show. Named 'Little sure shoot' by Sitting bull because she was only five foot tall. Interesting woman who even performed at the Paris expo in 1889.

Yellowstone

Luckily being the first day open the park was empty and we had no trouble finding a place to park the truck camper and trailer.
What a beautiful park definitely lived up to its reputation.

Gran Teton

Grand Teton and Jackson Hole
Camped up in the Elk Refuge area looking over the Grand Teton mountains. The campsite was up a muddy dirt track, but Derek thought the 'Ram Dooley' could handle it, no problems. Unfortunately all the elk had left to go north the week before. More snow.
Jackson Hole was starting to open up, which meant that Derek and I were off to check out the Million Dollar bar that had been recommended to us.
