On the road in Manitoba, Canada
Loving the openness of the Prairies, straight roads and ever changing skies
Manitoba, Farmery Harvest Host
Australian Fathers Day we stayed at another Harvest Host this one a brewery called Farmery, because the brothers who own the business grow their own grain and hops for the beer. Their story is an interesting one of how the family farm had to be sold off, so the two sons went off to the city to seek their fortune running restaurants and made enough money to buy the farm back. BBQ Ribs for dinner at the food truck that night and a great tour of the brewery and bottling shed the next morning with a drive passed their hops field to get a closer look at how hops are grown on our way out of town.
Lake Manitoba Northern lights
There was a solar storm predicted for the weekend that would show in the sky right down to the USA border. Manitoba Lake seemed like a good place to get a great view of it and there are plenty of free camping places there. The sun set was amazing and the lights also but we were not able to get a great photo of it. The light show happened at midnight but by then the wind off the lake was so freezing cold we didn’t want to stand outside so took turns sticky our heads out of the camper sunroof like a family of prairie dogs.
Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada
Another great city to walk around, we dropped in at a first nations powwow, something that I wanted to do while in Canada. The kids were so cute.
