Saskatchewan Regina

Regina Saskatchewan

The first night we camped at Walmart with another ten rvs all parked under the sign that says no overnight parking. Not one moved us on so it was a good night.
Regina is not a very big city but it does have an impressive Legislative Building and lake which we went to visit.
A lovely sunny day to unicycle around the lake to the very impressive Legislative Building where we did a quick tour and learnt a bit about it. It is one of the most historic properties in Saskatchewan, and one of the province’s greatest achievements. Constructed from 1908 to 1912.
The location of the building was quite controversy, the city fathers favoured Town Park on the north side of the creek, where the soundstage is now located. Victoria Park in the city’s central core was also considered, but Scott favoured the 66 hectares on the south side of Wascana Creek. The government went on to purchase the old Sinton property for just over $96,000.
Originally, the proposed facing for the building was red brick and pale bluff stone, but at the request of Premier Scott, the exterior walls were faced with the cream-coloured Tyndall stone from Manitoba. A good decision of Scotts the building is beautiful. The interior is also Impressive with plenty of marble and art work. The final cost of construction of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building in 1912 was $1.8 million.
Scott at the time thought that there would be 10 million residents in Saskatchewan, today there is only 1.162mil, but all the same what a great legacy and recreational lake for the people of Saskatchewan and Regina (population 992 thousand).
