Calgary Stampede

The quintessential thing to do Canadas cowboy country. We had seen a rodeo in San Antonio so thought that the chuck wagon racing would be interesting. I didn’t know it could be that dangerous, during the stampede a total of six horses had to be euthanised, three of them on the night we went. The lead horse in the pack of four broke a hind leg and brought the team down. The animals rights activists will probably have a field day over this.
The after show was fantastic and included more fireworks, you would think we would have had our fill of fireworks after the Tupilan Casino and Boom City, but no, it’s always great to watch fireworks.
While waiting for the chuck wagon race we visited a few other competitions, heavy hall competition and miniature horse donkey comp. Food, fairground, more food , prise winning livestock. A great day.
