Kliene Zalze Wine Estate, Stellenbosch.

One of our favourite small wineries. We stayed here for a week in the gated golf resort/winery. Lovely to be able to walk around the vineyards. We thought that we would try the Springbok it was excellent. Quite often here the chef will come out after service and have a chat, on this occasion we were early but told the waitress that the springbok was delicious, as she passes the kitchen she yells out "Complements to the chef on the springbok". They take their food seriously.

Franschhoek Navy Tram Line

The main tourist wine area. We took the Navy tram line. Our favourite wineries on this route were Verde en Lust,  Bartinney Wine Estate for its beautiful views across the valley and Plaisir. We had already visited Babylonstoren, which is another fantastic winery especially if you like gardens.

Paarl

Nederburg, Fairview and Spice Route. All amazing wineries.

Durbanville Town

We were at the Durbanville Air BnB for a month so plenty of opportunities to visit the local wineries.  A lot of the wineries have something that is unique to them, Klein Roosboom was one of these. The old concrete wine fermentation tanks were used for wine tasting rooms. A hole was knocked into the wall for a door and inside the tank you could still see lines on the walls from wine levels and tartaric acid deposits. It was very beautifully done.

Somerset West

Del Aire Gruff, we were taken here by new friends we had met. Absolutely beautiful winery, full of art pieces. Next winery we stopped at on the way back from visiting the camper, De Meye which had been recommended to us. They had a menu on offer and one table still free, we were very lucky the meal was superb. The tables were set up in the garden and visited by the winery dog who would help himself to a drink out of the wine cooler.

Capetowns Historic Groot Constantia

Jan van Riebeeck arrived in the Cape 1652, he builds the first fort and he and his gardener Hendrik Boom planted the first vines. Groot Constantia is South Africa's oldest working wine farm established in 1685. Founded by Dutch Govenor Simon van der Stel first Govenor of the Cape. It fell into decline in the early 20th century and abandoned, later to be restored in 1969 as a historic site. We had lunch at their very ornate restaurant called Simons.

Well, I think that is enough wineries, there were others, but these are the most memorable.
