After over two years of planning, consulting and getting quotes from builders all over the world we have settled on AC Motorhomes in Cape Town South Africa to build our next truck. They have said they would do whatever we like within their ability and their previous customers that I have spoken with seem happy overall with the quality of the product.
The motorhome is timber framed with polyisocyanurate insulation and a heavy fibreglass outer skin and laminate inner skin vacuum bonded to make a composite panel. I don't mind a timber frame as it doesn't fatigue like aluminium or have thermal bridges so long as the insulation is packed well.
The truck has now been delivered to AC Motorhomes and they can start measuring up for the sub-frame. I hope to go over in a few months when the main box is complete and before the fit-out of the cabinetry so we can confirm everything.
We have both now completed our medical and police checks for our South African visas. Just need to book our interview at the Embassy in Canberra for our "Retirement" visa application.
Big issue I have at the moment is I can't get reasonable priced insurance while the body is being built as it is not registered. I am currently working through with "Cartrack" to see if I can get some recovery warranty. They offer up to R5M compensation if you have their system installed and the vehicle is not recovered. Lots of conditions but better than nothing.
