Saltillo Mexico

14th February 2019

We had crossed the border without incident and made it to Saltillo in good time. The toll roads in Mexico are great, they are a bit expensive which is probably why there is not a lot of traffic on them. If you have a breakdown on the toll roads green angels are supposed to come and rescue you, and get you back on the road again.

We camped behind a hotel in an area set aside for RVs, we were the only ones there. I don't think Saltillo gets many visitors because when we visited the tourist information center the manager who could not speak any English must have taken about a dozen photos of us.  We got enough information to have a quick look around.  The first place to start is always the town square.  While we were looking around we saw the Palace heavily guarded with armed guards, so we decided to visit the cathedral first but while we were taking photos one of the guards came up to us and invited us to come and see the Local Government Palace.  Now, what do you say to a man with a automatic rifle?  Why, yes of course.   Saltillo was a wonderful welcome  to Mexico.  The people were really friendly and the town was really what you expect a Mexican town to look like.  There was music and fun working out what to eat at the taco bar in the Seven Eleven store.  They were very welcoming.

  1. To the man, you say yes SIR….I got into trouble in the vatican or some museum there….big signs everywhere no photos….no idea why. THEN I thought my camera is still on, so got it out and pressed something accidentally it was a new camera, and a flash went off…..immediately I was surrounded by guards saying no photos, no photos……I said I did not take any photo, it just flashed that was all…….so got the film developed and there is some blurry item, no idea what, that DID get a picture of itself taken…..THEN we all had to cover our shoulders to take a tour in the church….it was terribly hot so most of us had tee shirts and sleeveless dresses on…..so we all bought scarves (big business outside the church, he must sell thousands a day) and draped our shoulders with them to get inside. Like God cares???? We were ripped off everywhere we went, specially in Italy, but what is new for tourists in the world…..such is life…..love mum
